Maritime Aviation have released their 2024 'open course' dates for the MCA accredited Large Yacht Heliport Safety Training Courses for superyacht and cruise ship crew members requiring 'Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO)' and 'Heliport Deck Assistant (HDA)' certification or recertification.
It is a requirement that crew members working on a superyacht with a commercial heliport i.e the helicopter is carrying charter guests, MUST be certificated to operate the heliport. Those superyachts that may be operating on a non-commercial basis, it is deemed by insurers and some flag states that this course should be undertaken for the purposes of risk mitigation and best industry practice.
If you are a crew member working on a superyacht or cruise ship with a heliport, then these courses are a career must have! It is highly recommended that you plan your training in to ensure that your qualification remains in date.
